Having studied in Paris her natural artistic talent was clearly visible, her distinctive, bold style epitomised the sensual side of art deco. Her technique, elegance & sheer determination to succeed made Tamara de Lempicka the most fashionable portrait painter of her generation. Her obsession with her work and social life lead to the demise of her 1st marriage and a barely existent relationship with her daughter, Kizette. However she immortalised her daughter by including her in many of her paintings. When she travelled to America with Baron Raoul Kuffner she was aswell recieved & became the artist of the stars. Hollywood icons visited her studio and she their movie sets. Her influences did vary a little with the change of times, some work including refugees and poorer people. There were even hints of a Dali influence in paintings such as the 'Key & Hand' 1941. After relocating to New York she continued to paint in her trademark style but with a wider variety of subjects including still life. Instead of painting with brush she used a pallete knife to create a new style. However her new work was not as well recieved and she retired as a professional artist, but still reworked her original pieces using her new techniques. Before she died in 1980,her art had received new audiences. Her art deco paintings were being exhibited & bought once again. One of her most famous fans & collector of her works is Jack Nicholson. |
